POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Director, Global Content, Engagement, and Reputation (PR) is a strategic leader responsible for shaping, elevating, and integrating HIMSS’s global brand narrative across audiences, regions, and channels. This role drives cohesive enterprise storytelling; oversees internal and external communications; stewards HIMSS’s reputation globally; and strengthens audience engagement through data-driven content strategy, thought leadership, media relations, and executive visibility.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Director, Global Content, Engagement, and Reputation (PR) is a strategic leader responsible for shaping, elevating, and integrating HIMSS’s global brand narrative across audiences, regions, and channels. This role drives cohesive enterprise storytelling; oversees internal and external communications; stewards HIMSS’s reputation globally; and strengthens audience engagement through data-driven content strategy, thought leadership, media relations, and executive visibility.
The Senior Director plays a key leadership role in the HIMSS transformation—aligning content, communications, and PR to the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic growth areas, including analytics, professional development, advisory services, insights, events, and global communities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Global Content Strategy & Enterprise Storytelling
- Lead the development of a unified content strategy that aligns to HIMSS’s mission, vision, strategic priorities, and growth areas.
- Oversee creation of high-impact content that spans thought leadership, digital channels, member engagement, global events, executive communications, and editorial platforms.
- Partner with Product (Analytics, Advisory, Professional Development, Content and Programming, Media, Membership), Sales, Government Relations, to ensure consistent value positioning and narrative alignment across the enterprise.
- Lead development of yearly marketing and communications plan in partnership with CMCO and Senior Director Audience and Channel Strategy, including development and ongoing updating and management of KPIs and marketing and communications calendar.
- Establish and enforce content governance standards, editorial calendars, and style guidelines.
- Develop and oversee internal communication strategies that build transparency, cohesion, and clarity across the enterprise—especially through periods of organizational transformation.
- Lead the design and delivery of messaging for CEO, COO, and executive leadership, in partnership with director of executive communications, including leading global town halls, staff updates, change-management communications, and cultural engagement.
- Oversee implementation of Microsoft Viva Engage employee engagement platform, including staff training.
- Oversee brand guidelines training for all team members.
- Strengthen employee understanding of HIMSS priorities, programs, and performance through clear and actionable communication channels.
- Oversee the development of chapter- and community-focused communications in alignment with HIMSS regional and global priorities.
- Serve as the strategic lead for public relations, reputation stewardship, and proactive global media relations in partnership with director of executive communications.
- Develop and execute strategies that elevate HIMSS’s visibility with policymakers, the health ecosystem, industry influencers, and global media.
- Lead reputation-building efforts around HIMSS’s thought leadership, analytics, advisory work, global conferences, maturity models, and public-policy positioning.
- Oversee response strategy for inquiries from press and external stakeholders; ensure consistent, accurate, mission-aligned communication.
- Oversee team responsible for development of strong relationships with global journalists, analysts, and strategic media partners.
- Partner with senior director of channel and audience strategy to oversee and develop strategies that increase multi-channel engagement across professional development, communities, media, membership, events, and digital platforms.
- Drive adoption of KPIs, real-time analytics dashboards, and audience-insight tools to optimize impact and performance.
- Integrate data into content and communications planning to strengthen reach, influence, and conversion.
- Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary global team across content, editorial, PR, media relations, and internal communications.
- Establish a culture of collaboration, creativity, and accountability aligned with HIMSS values: Curiosity, Belonging, Integrity, Simplicity, Tenacity.
- Partner with regional offices, chapters, and communities to ensure global relevance and local resonance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or related experience.
- 10–15+ years of experience in communications, PR, enterprise content, or reputation management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Demonstrated success leading integrated global communications and content programs within mission-driven, matrixed, or transformation-focused organizations.
- Expertise in executive communications, media relations, crisis/reputation management, and enterprise storytelling.
- Deep understanding of the digital health ecosystem, global health policy, and the technology/media landscape strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to manage high-performing teams and collaborate across complex global environments.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and message-development skills—capable of producing CEO-level content.
- Strong analytical mindset with experience using engagement metrics and analytics to inform strategy.
